What is hypnotherapy?

It is the combination of visualisation, deep relaxation and therapeutic techniques as applied by psychologists and therapists, but while in a deep state of relaxation, enabling the mind to easily access and accept solutions offered by your unconscious mind or suggested by the therapist.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state, accessible to all to varying degrees.  Many people can access a medium to deep trance state with hypnotherapy which will serve to assist any changes they desire with this method of treatment. It is safe with no harmful side effects

Will I be made to act inappropriately?

No. In clinical hypnotherapy the aim is to fulfill the client’s needs and requirements. You will remain in control and your unconscious mind will reject any suggestions which are inappropriate for you and your personal values.

Thoughts, feelings and actions

This cycle of effect can explain much of the difficulties experienced by those seeking hypnotherapy as a method of change. Thoughts affect feelings, and consequently behaviour which then can develop into a revolving and sometimes spiraling problem. Confidence boosting is also performed during therapy and results are long lasting and often permanent.

Hypnotherapy will help to interrupt the cycle by either;

  • Changing the thoughts and beliefs.
  • Adjusting the physiological reactions by reducing or increasing the level of anxiety, excitement or inhibition.
  • Or breaking the habit (action) that has perhaps unconsciously resulted from those thoughts or feelings - which may have added to the cycle.
For example;

Thoughts:     “I haven’t prepared for the exam - I’m hopeless, I’m going to fail”.
Feelings:     Lose confidence, lose energy and enthusiasm, become depressed.
Action:         Avoid studying, feel anxious, as exams approach, try to avoid the exam, consequently don’t do well. Back to the original thought - “I’m a failure and hopeless at exams”.
